How I style my chest of drawersβ¦
I recently got a new chest of drawers and hereβs how Iβm styling them. Most of you will know that I moved into a new home a couple of months ago and the majority of my time has been spent trying to turn my house into a home. Iβm slowly getting there with it all now, but of course itβs probably going to be in a work in progress for a few years to come because isnβt home styling and homeware shopping just the best?! The most recent addition is to my bedroom and itβs the most beautiful chest of drawers from Wayfair. My house is lacking in storage space so not only is this a welcomed addition for my ever-growing collection of jumpers and eyeshadow palettes, but itβs a new spot to decorate yay! I had a chest of drawers to style whilst I lived with my parents and it was one of my favourite areas to look at and take photos of, so Iβm loving having my own set in the new place.Β
This is the Wembley 5 Drawer Chest from Wayfair in classic white (but also comes in grey!) and itβs gorgeous. Itβs perfect for filling the bottom three wider drawers with jumpers and pyjamas and the top two with makeup and skincare bits. Can you ever have enough storage really? The best bit is that it arrived preassembled so no flat pack building with this one. You just need a helping hand in getting it up the stairs,Β then remove all of the packaging and hey presto. Perfect if youβre rubbish at DIY like me! So, letβs get into how to style one of these beautiesβ¦
Artwork
A unit to style up is always the perfect little spot for a print or two isnβt it? I do love having things leaning against walls rather than hanging absolutely everything up on the wall itself! It gets a bit boring, especially if you have lots of shelving and wall mirrors like I do. I also thing itβs a great little trick if, like mine, the skirting board stops you from having the drawers backed up fully against the wall therefore leaving a little gap. Pop some prints up and boom, you canβt even see it. It works nicely to add a bit of character and colour to an area of a room too, because of course the designs with prints are endless.
Statement Pieces
I think when youβre styling the surface of something like a desk, shelf, or chest of drawers, it helps to have an almost centre piece. Something statement that you want on show and can work around. It gives you a helping hand in deciding on the colour scheme and what textures you want to work with. For me, Iβve chosen this little rattan tray that I picked up in JYSK. It was a bargain at around Β£10 and Iβve filled it with all of my favourite perfumes. I find fragrances such a hard thing to store so I tend to pop them all in a tray on a surface somewhere and this spot works perfectly. I am obsessed with the rattan tray too and I love the warmth it adds to a set of plain white drawers. Combined with the light wood frames of the prints, it gave me the perfect colour scheme as I knew that I wanted to work with warm tones for this space.
Something personal
Itβs always nice to inject something personal when youβre styling a space, particularly a chest of drawers which is most likely to be placed in the bedroom. For my personal addition, I went with my gorgeous bee dish from Sass & Belle and placed a few of my favourite jewellery pieces on it. I opted for things I tend to wear most often because not only do they look pretty, but theyβre now so easy to grab when Iβm getting ready on a morning!
Homely touches
Β Homely touches for me are things like a candle or two. In Autumn particularly, I will often get out the shower and go and light a few candles, so itβs nice to have one placed on the chest of drawers that I can light on an evening or a morning. Other homely touches could be things like a nice vase or maybe a couple of your favourite books.Β
Work with height
I think things get boring and look a bit bland if you donβt work well with height when styling shelves and surfaces. Plants are perfect for adding some height as well as looking cute. I recently picked up a new plant from the garden centre and it needed a home, and I think it adds such a lovely touch to this space to finish it off. Greenery is always a good option for anything in the home I think, thereβs plenty of fake but realistic greenery about these days too if you canβt commit to looking after a real plant! I picked a plant pot that has brass tones running through it so that it blends in nicely with the other warm tones. So pretty.
