Things Iβll look for when I buy my first home.
Iβm so lucky that I live in a rental where I can do what I like to the place and truly make it feel like home, however I also canβt wait for the day where I can buy my own place to rip everything out and design it from scratch! Itβs really difficult to get on the property ladder as a single mum but Iβm hoping that one day Iβll own a cute little cottage in the middle of nowhere. For now, Iβm making lists of all the things that Iβll look for in my dream homeβ¦
Β
REAL WOOD FLOORING
I absolutely love real wood floors and donβt get me wrong, I love laminate, but itβs not quite the same. Iβd happily settle for engineered wood flooring like the options that Flooring365 offer, or some really rustic floorboards like you see in older houses. They donβt only look better (of course they do, itβs the real thing) but theyβre also much more durable and hardwearing so I feel like theyβre much better for the long-term. Wood flooring is just so dreamy and goes with absolutely everything!
Β
FANCY COVING
Iβm always swooning over the fancy coving in victorian properties and I hate that my house doesnβt have any so this one will be high on the list. It seems like something you donβt notice, and if I wasnβt a lover of interiors I probably wouldnβt care less whether a house had coving or not. But because itβs something that I do notice, I feel like itβs a must-have now. I just think it brings a room together and looks so lovely!
Β
A FIREPLACE
Again, I adore my faux fireplace and Iβll take it with me when I eventually move, but thereβs nothing Iβd love more than a big rustic, real fireplace. Getting a real fire roaring in winter is the dream, itβs just so cosy and lovely. They are definitely messy things as Iβve seen from my parents fireplace, but oh totally worth it. I can just imagine getting all cosy in front of it every winter.
Β
CHARACTER
I understand character isnβt very specific, but what I mean by it is just the usual quirks you have in a building that really give it character. For example, recesses where you can add shelving or windows with areas that enable you to have a window seat. They probably seem like nothing to people who already have them but living in a new build with 0 character, itβs something I really miss! Sometimes I feel like shelving really sticks out and it would be fab to have essentially holes in the walls where I could add them.
Β
A BIG HALLWAY
My hallway is tiny and I always have all the heart eyes for these lovely big hallways on Pinterest, so Iβd love my own big one to style when I eventually buy somewhere. I get itβs not really a room as such and seems like a waste of space if you like, but I walk through my hallway coming up and down the stairs so often that I feel like itβs a highly used space. A big hallway is also much better if you have children so you can park the pram up without clogging up the place!
