Looking for some lash tips?
False lashes are one of those things that I only wear for special occasions, but it took me a while before I would even bother with them at all for occasions, just because they can be so tricky to get right! I absolutely love having long, fluttery lashes, so I’m glad I stuck it out and as they say, practice makes perfect. I used to get lash extensions which I absolutely loved, but they completely ruined my natural lashes, so false lashes are much better in my opinion, as you can wear all kinds of different types to suit any occasion and they don’t ruin your natural lashes one bit. There’s a few little tricks I’ve learned over the past few years that make false lashes look a bit more ‘realistic’ and not like you’ve just stuck something to your eye – so keep reading to find out my top tips for applying them!

It sets pretty quickly and keeps lashes on all day long, so you don’t have to worry about them flying off your face at any point. Some starting points…
You’ll want your lashes to fit your eyelids properly, and this can mean you may need to give them a trim. No eyelid is the same and we all have different eye shapes so it’s impossible for one size to fit all. That’s why most lashes are a decent length, so that you’re able to cut them down a little to fit your own eyes. All you need to do is place the lash along your lash line, figure out how much needs trimming and just go in by trimming off tiny amounts until you’re happy with the length!
I’d recommend doing this prior to your event/occasion, ideally as soon as you buy your lashes and then you’re all set whenever you go to wear them. I usually trim off the inner part of the lashes rather than the outer as I love a ‘cat eye’ effect with lashes, but it’s up to you how you do it.
When it comes to lash application, my top tip would be, never apply too much glue to the lash band. It makes the application super messy and can mess up your eye makeup and get all of the lashes stuck together. It’s just easier to apply a very thin line along the lash band and that way you can apply a bit more if needed. You don’t usually need much at all for it to stick well though.
How I apply my lashes…
For me personally, I like to do my lashes last, so I’ll do all of my base makeup, my brows and my eye makeup and go in with my lashes as the absolute last thing I do. Well maybe just before lipstick! I find this works best for me, especially with applying mascara on my natural lashes, as I don’t want to do that after and get the falsies all clumpy.
To begin, I go in with a thin line of glue along the band of the lashes, wave it about for a minute or so until it semi-dries and is tacky (this avoids a big mess on your eyelids!) and then I apply the lashes above my lash line.
I start by popping the lash in the middle, just above my lash line and get this stuck in place first. Next I use two hands to hold each end of the lash in place in the inner part and outer part of my eye and hold it for a few seconds until it’s firmly stuck in place.
Once the lashes are all set in place, I’ll leave them to fully dry for a few minutes whilst I do something like my lipstick or tidying up my makeup, and then I’ll go in and press my natural lashes and the false lashes together. I find this just helps give you a much more natural finish by blending the two instead of having them separated.
The finished look…
The best thing about the Ardell Wispies is that they look so fluttery and natural! I’m not a fan of any lashes that are super OTT but these add lots of length and volume whilst still looking nice and natural. Another tip you could finish off a look with, is to apply a thin line of black eyeliner along your lash line to really help it all blend seamlessly and to hide any glue. I don’t usually feel the need to do this, but sometimes it helps just cover up any little mishaps and helps give you a fully flawless look at the end.
